ABOUT CARTOON MIND

My name is Tom Kennedy, I’m a multidisciplinary designer and illustrator. I grew up in Blackpool, England. I studied at Salford University of Art & Design and I’ve loved drawing for as long as I can remember.

My story is pretty much like every other art fan that grew up in the late 80’s and early 90’s: Saturday morning cartoons were my lifeblood from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to He-Man and Thundercats every kid my age was glued to the screen. and I was no exception. Later I discovered the Manga Home Video collection and developed a love for Anime, Manga, and animation in general. Those early obsessions have influenced my work and life permanently.

After University I worked for a lot of companies in various different design and illustration positions. Working for companies like Nintendo, Hilton Hotels and Costa Coffee doing print and web design, branding or illustration. Whatever I could do to further develop the creative skill set I was up to the challenge. In 2015 I decided it was time to try my hand at freelancing and building my own company. Leaving my salaried position with not much of a plan I decided to start my own design agency.

I have been independent ever since. After a year or so of working as a freelance designer and building my client base, I started to realize that my true passion was in illustration and I wanted to have a separate entity to share my illustration and animation work. Thus, Cartoon Mind was born. A website to show off the artwork I create, provide resources and tutorials for the community and hock my merch to willing fans (hopefully).
